I still don't know when the webserver will be up.

That's all I'm really able to say at this moment. I talked with the host and they said it would be back up a while ago, but it's still down.

Again, no one is more distressed about this than me. This is not my fault and there really is nothing I can do to make this go faster.

I'm aware that there are a lot of rule breakers going around right now, and without the reports section and support tickets, the rules aren't being enforced. I'm sorry. It really makes you wonder how other RO servers do without things like support tickets and dedicated rule enforcement. When we can bring the server up, we will - but until then there's not a whole lot we can do.

I might as well go out and say that this is something more serious than a technical problem, and that's why the delay is so long. When I'm able to discuss more information with you guys, I will, but until then, please be patient.

Again, I'm really sorry for all this. As soon as we're able to fix things, we will.

Whats ment with "Something more serious than a technical problem"?

I mean, it wont affect the game being online, will it?

That sentence made me worry =/

Thank You for posting again and keeping us informed about what is going on and what is being done.
I can understand your frustration and i am sure you are doing everything it is that can be done, AT THIS TIME. What we need is understanding and patience.

would it help you if you had a place where people could post bot reports and other serious issues? mainly stuff that'd be in the public forum anyway, with you having the ability to close issues that were dealt with?

Since the webserver is down and for some reason everytime i go to log on the server has just "crashed" according to my friends maybe can you leave maintenance or a Server status bar somewhere on teh site? maybe as teh header for the home page? OR is that in some way connected to the webserver? I have no idea just putting it out there

Is This An Issue of Finances? If it is, I'm sure there are pleanty of users who would help the server get up again (I'm one of them)

And just wonderig, Cause there's nowhere else to check, is the whole game down right now? I can't get on! :(

What I'm mostly concerned about is 'more serious than a technical problem', cause I'm experiencing one right now. Last night at 8pm PST I was able to log in and play, but now, 2pm PST the next day, the log-in won't work, saying that my User ID is not registered or something like that.

That's a bit more than serious.

Don't worry, Harken. No one in their right mind would blame the GMs for this. It's like blaming your neighbour for the lack of snow during the summer or accusing your fish of causing global warming.

Hmm, it seems all my accounts are coming up as Unregistered ID's... I triple-checked my spelling on ID and Passwords, but its not working for some reason. I hope nothing serious happened

Whew, just earlier I freaked out cause I tried logging in and got a message that said my account didn't exist! I thought you GMs were slowly cutting off ties to Animaro so you could retire or something... (weird things come into people's heads when they're worried) btw is the prontera bot website still running? I wanted to check it out but i forgot the url...

well is back now but all this time it didnt recognize my ID, weird, hope you post here more and that we really had evening events, was just one >.<

AnimaRo can still be downloaded here:
ftp://db.animaro.com/

I believe that it would be in the best interest of the Server to set up a temporary 'home' on a forum, just to provide some form of communication between the players/Gms.

Benjamin, most likely what they meant was that this is an issue not with the hardware of what the webhost is on, but rather the COMPANY that they are dealing with. Most likely they'll have to shift to another host at this rate.

hmmm... well i hope everything would go alright in the end. why not make some kind of substitution site for now? like those sites that lets you make free forums and stuff so players can post support ticket there until the site is back to normal?

I agree that temporary forums would be a good idea. I know that eamped.com offers free hosting for forums as well as a portal system you could use very easily.

And still whether its company/host related vs technical problem ..it sends up a red flag =/

............Seriously, Its getting me so p*ssed. 4/5 times I try to play I get "Failed to connect to server."

Server not down indeed, it might as well be at this rate.

Im sorry to say this:

Im also a server owner.
To hire a new server machine, and buying a new site, is a matter of day's. And i mean 3 or 4.
Any average server owner should have a copy of his own server on his hard-disk, including database, recent or not.
If a owner have SUCH a large community, i would even go personally to that datacenter, and get the data from there, if needed, so i can put it somewhere else up again.
And YES, you are always access granted to your own machine.
Possible that a datacenter/webhost fail, but both?
A downtime this long, is simply unacceptable for anyone hiring a server. Any average datacenter host would have moved data to a new machine, or whatever.

I can understand downtime of few day's, up to a week. But a downtime this long, and a admin who still knows nothing? Sorry guy's, but this might be going wrong for you.

I'm rooting for you Harken! I know that you and the other GMs are doing your best in trying to calm the current amount of chaos. I would like to ask if there is anything that I could possibly do to help. I.E. donation, spreading word, or really anything. Everyone is really worried about aRO. I will continue to support in any way that I can.

The character server kept crashing =X

We appreciate all your hard efforts GMs. Hopefully, this can be fixed soon.

I like the idea of using a forum as a temporary "base" for the site, even if its just a freeforums.org site, it will still be useful to keep relations with the staff, allows for rule infractions to be reported and keeps everyone /b/ happy and the like ;p

Aside from that, if this keeps up, you may want to consider finding a new host, though I'm sure you've considered this option already.

Anyways, hope this all gets sorted out soon.

Unknown said...

I agree maybe a temporary forums place mostly for reports, not guild discussion or off topics as usualy but with the basic so the gms can know about the rulebreakers and can do something agains them ^^

Kyo, your link does not provide the username and password for that ftp - I used to remember it, but if you can look at the bottom of your browser to see what it says for the username and password (assuming your browser remembers it, please post that as well.

Thanks Harkan for the update! Actually I do suggest to move to a different host pretty soon, that is if this host is still down by monday of next week. Maybe you guys can set up a GUESTBOOK for Bot reports to substitute for the Ticket System for the meantime. Or you can tell everyone to go to the IRC Channel to report these happenings, its really easy to sign on and etc. People should understand ^_^

Unknown said...

don't thing this is hardware/system problem anymore.

GM (Harken), let us know how can we help. I never donate, but i'm willing to do so for the server. Just let us know. I believe a lot of people sharing same view...

We want the site up as soon as possible as you do. I actually miss the forum and site.....

Just for general information...

If you are having trouble connecting to the game, try openning the game with "DyeFire". I find that when I try to open the game with the regular aRo patcher, I have no luck. But when I open it with DyeFire, I have no problem at all.

If you're concerned about DyeFire lagging the game during WoE, simply use the "clothing dyes disabled" option and there'll be no problem.

guys, relax. if you hop on IRC (server: irc.deltaanime.net, channel: #animaro) it'll be easier for you to stay up to date with what's going on with the server whether it's up or down or just kinda down. lately, chances are the problems you have been experiencing logging in or suddenly getting dc'd when moving to another map are due to the character server going down (according to GMs in #animaro during the last occurance of char server downtime).

if you can't log in sometime for some reason and it still doesn't work when you try again, just give it a rest for a while. it probably means no one can connect.

thanks a bunch to the Shoppes of AnimaRO people for providing downloads! also, they have been hosting the pc-bot for a while, and its webpage is pc.bot.nu

and yes, it would be helpful if the usual green/red server status image could be temporarily hosted elsewhere so that people can check it to see what the problem is if they can't log on.

also, "Something more serious than a technical problem" has me a bit worried too.

I agree with the "temporary forums" idea, since We need a place to make
reports x_x.

Unknown said...

This is kinda sad.

Unknown said...

The website being down is just very inconvenient. But it shouldn't really affect people that much. It's just a game after all.

I realise that bot reports can't be send in nor can other reports of rule breaking. However, setting up a temporary forum website for reports might not be the best idea.

If one is set up though, it will be a lot easier to contact the GM's and will be a lot easier for the GM's to make announcements.

Isn't there a possibility to sidplay a message as soon as you log in? I've seen this on other RO servers. A bit like a guild announcement.

Unknown said...

Cant u guys just make a temp forum out of all those free forum things. That way u can atleast fill out bot,ks,etc. reports and stuff....

Thx for keeping us informed.

Can we please get the rules posted up somewhere else at least?

Discussing how Grimmjw was breaking the rules with him earlier by Both kill stealing and looting and he claimed to not know the rules. When I asked about him agreeing to the rules when he registered he said he just agreed. and then had a go at me for breaking the rules for not ressing him when he died and said that was why he was looting me. Even though he was doing it before he died.

Problem is I told him he should learn the rules before playing and he asked where are the rules...

and as far as I know they arnt available anywhere.

Thanks for the update harken!

I guess we'll just have to sit tight until the website is up and running again = /. Whilst most of us are being good, there are some people out there who are running amok cause we can't send in reports as efficiently as we did in the past = P

Could we possibly get another site to temporarily store reports = P, even some like a geocities site that we could sign off in the guestbook+links would be better than nothing.

Harken, I believe in you and your fellow GM's. I believe that you are doing everything in your power to preserve, GM Debbie's memory.

Conjecture and Rumors must cease here and now. We must rally our beliefs into what we all hold dear to us. Aro is more than just a gamming server, it's a home to alot of people.

I've heard stories, read blogs, and heard rumors. Whatever becomes of the website, I'm 100% possitive that it's not taken likely and the GM's already have a backup plan for this situation.

Harken also I offer my help and support, Technical or if 20 bucks helps let me know.

http://animaro.freeforums.org/

I have made the Forum above [relatively easily] to provide us [the players] with a place to communicate easily. The Gms are welcome to having sections created for Bug Reporting and what not.

looks like you guys re enjoying your holidays without the support tickets =P
Admins, can you start some promotions in prontera, GM chatt, etc. for http://shoppesofanimaro.com/register.php

and I am sure that you GMs do care about the people on animaro, so why dont you use the support ticket on shoppesofanimaro.com to help us innocent gamers vs the rulebreakers =)
